About Edie

Edie was Certified as a Geriatric Care Manager in 2015 by the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers (recently renamed the Aging Life Care Association). She was educated with a BS Recreation Therapy, BA History, and certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in 1992. She has worked extensively with patients throughout the lifespan, and from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds and medical diagnoses.
As the Director of Recreation Therapy at Crestwood Neuro-Behavioral Center, and at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Edie developed recreation and rehabilitation programs with emphasis on behavior management for patients with neurological impairments - including stroke, dementia diagnoses, and traumatic brain injury. She began her career in pediatrics on the east coast, and developed a Recreation Therapy/Child Life program for a new rehabilitation unit at Eastern Carolina University Hospital. There she helped children and their families adjust to long term hospitalization, and to coping with disabilities and health issues.

Edie has utilized a variety of techniques to connect with her clients - art, music, counseling, relaxation techniques, cognitive games, exercise, community outings, and social events - all designed to meet her patient's varying levels of physical, cognitive, and social-emotional abilities. Working closely with like-minded professionals of physical therapy, occupational therapy, clinical psychology, social work, and nursing, she is accustomed to addressing multidisciplinary treatment goals while emphasizing quality of life, relationships, and independence.
Edie became involved in providing home care to seniors in Marin County after caring for her mother while on hospice services at the end of her life. After eight years of providing private care for Marin residents, she became certified as a Geriatric Care Manager. Edie manages seniors living at home, elders in assisted living facilities, and patients in rehabilitation facilities and hospitals. She brings to her work a love of life, respect for wisdom, and an awareness of being fully present as she guides her patients and their families.
She has attended many workshops at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, Woodacre, Ca on mindfulness and therapeutic techniques, and hopes to participate in Mindfulness Based Dementia Care training - a curriculum being developed via the Wellness Initiative for the University of Michigan Alzheimer's Disease Center. Edie is currently a member of the Aging Life Care Association, the Marin County Section on Aging, and the National Council on Aging.
